VAT ID in the cart
Logged-in B2B buyers enter their EU VAT ID right in the cart — via a theme app block.
Live VIES check
The number is checked against VIES. ExemptKit confirms the registration is real.
Same-country rule
If the buyer's country matches your shop's country, the order stays taxable.
R1 — never exemptExemption at checkout
Eligible customers get the reverse-charge exemption — checkout shows 0% VAT.

Same-country never exempt
The R1 rule has the highest priority and can't be turned off. A valid VAT ID never overrides a domestic sale.
A VIES outage never blocks
If VIES is unreachable, the order stays cautiously taxed and a recheck is queued. Customers are never blocked.
Everything is reviewable
Every decision is visible in the admin — including the rule that applied — and exportable as CSV.
